It is an exciting time to join the pharmacy team at MKUH as we are continually growing in size and influence. We have recently undergone a major departmental refurbishment which included the installation of a new Pharmacy Robot, the opening a new Pharmacy and Aseptic Unit in our Cancer Centre and the planned opening of a new Outpatient Pharmacy in the coming months. Our services are being developed to offer patients, nursing and medical staff more time with pharmacists, to ensure that every patient receives safe, high quality care as our patients are at the heart of everything that we do.


To support this, we currently looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated pharmacist to join our team to lead our antimicrobial stewardship activities. You will work collaboratively with our Consultant Microbiologists and Infection Control team to promote the prudent use of antimicrobial medicines through a wide range of activities including participation in MDT ward rounds, promoting service improvement through CQUIN indicators and QI activities, undertaking regular audits, reviewing antimicrobial usage data, developing and promoting antimicrobial guidelines and supporting the healthcare staff education around antimicrobial use.


Applicants must be registered as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Ideally you will have experience working within the antimicrobials field combined with considerable experience within an acute hospital setting. We are looking for someone willing to show commitment to delivering excellence and working with us to make pharmacy a great place to be, for all staff in our wider team. A can-do approach and commitment to self and service development is essential to enable the person appointed to be able to train and develop others in partnership with other pharmacy staff members.


We have recently restructured our working hours meaning that standard hours are now four long days per week with weekends covered on a rota basis. You will contribute to the pharmacy out of hours service following a period of induction and training.
